Change a Child's Story Book Drive

CUMC is collecting new books for Coralville Elementary School children in need. It's easy to join us in this effort!

Reading opens doors, creates opportunities, and fosters life-long learning. Children can overcome major barriers if they develop a love of reading.

Reading is a social activity. Children don’t learn to read on their own. And good stories, powerful stories, are meant to be shared. Spend time reading with a child, and both your lives will be better for it. Helping children become stronger readers is one of the best ways to ensure they have every chance to flourish.

As part of the Bishop’s Poverty to Opportunity initiative, United Methodist churches across Iowa have been challenged to collect one million books and devote one million hours to reading to children in poverty. Here at CUMC we are ready to help.

Here's how you can join us:

·         Purchase one or more new books from the list provided on the Change a Child’s Story table in the Narthex, just outside the sanctuary.

·         Bring your books to church by November 19 and drop them in the Book Cart.

·         Watch the pile grow!
